DUI Collision Injures 3 People
A DUI traffic collision left two people hospitalized Tuesday afternoon, August 17th.
The crash reportedly took place at about 2:48 p.m. near Cohasset Road and Azalea Avenue.
According to reports, a speeding northbound Dodge Charger struck a Mazda 3 that was making a left turn onto Azalea from Cohasset Road.
The driver of the Mazda sustained major injuries and was taken to the Enloe Medical Center. There was also a 17-year-old male passenger who had minor injuries following the crash.
It was the occupant of the Charger that was intoxicated at the time of the crash. They were transported to a local hospital as well for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities later arrested the driver on a suspected DUI charge.
The intersection was blocked off for some time pending investigation.
According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.
