Michael Lee Confer Arrested After Suspected DUI Crash in Willits, CA

68-year-old Wayne Berry of Arroyo Grande died early Wednesday after being involved in a motorcycle accident on Highway 101 in Willits, CA. The accident happened at around 2:55 a.m. on May 13, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Michael Lee Confer was traveling northbound, near Main Street, in a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix. Confer crossed a double yellow line on the highway and struck Berry, who was traveling southbound in a 2007 BMW motorcycle.

The impact sent Berry and his motorcycle over the side of the elevated bypass. Confer’s Pontiac caught fire. Later that evening, the Mendocino County Coroner’s Office pronounced Berry dead at the scene after suffering multiple injuries.

Confer was sent to Howard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Authorities arrested Cofer and booked him into the Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
