Tragic News: Bicyclist Struck by Car Dies in Hospital
Victor Lunanan, 54, died Friday four days after a bicycle versus car accident earlier this month on Thunderbird Road in Apple Valley.
The traffic accident occurred at approximately 9:10 PM on June 3, 2024, according to a Victor Valley News Group report.
A 36-year-old driver in a black Ford Explorer SUV reportedly rear-ended the cyclist in the eastbound number one lane of Thunderbird Road near Wichita Road, the report said.
Man Suffering Major Injuries Hospitalized
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured man by ambulance to a hospital. He was then airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. However, unfortunately, he died a few days later on Friday, June 7th, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s records.
Meanwhile, the unidentified driver of the Ford Explorer stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) is working on the case and will determine fault.
Police closed down the eastbound and westbound lanes of Thunderbird Road between Wichita Road and Wanaque Road for roughly four hours.
Furthermore, Apple Valley had 327 injury or fatal traffic accidents in 2021, according to the Office of Traffic Safety. Two of those collisions involved bicyclists.
