Sacramento Woman Killed in Traffic Collision

Two vehicles collided in Sacramento on May 26th as the result of an impaired driver.

Reports included that the accident took place at 8:36 a.m. at the intersection of Power Inn Road and Elsie Avenue.

A speeding Chevrolet pickup truck was swerving in and out of traffic before running a red light at the intersection.

As a result, the truck collided with a Ford Explorer driven by Veronica Vargas, 35, of Sacramento.

Due to the impact, the Ford overturned. There was also a 4-year-old girl in the vehicle at the time who suffered major injuries.

Sadly, Vargas was pronounced deceased by paramedics.

The involved driver, a 32-year-old man, tried to flee the scene but was stopped by witnesses. He showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on suspected DUI charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
