Vehicle Drives Through Homeless Encampment in Koreatown Injuring 4 People

According to the LA Fire Department, the collision took place around 6 a.m. in the 500 block of South Virgil Avenue.

It was reported that a Dodge Dart was speeding down Virgil Avenue prior to hitting a Toyota Corolla. As a result of that collision, the Dodge veered off the roadway, crashing into the sidewalk and driving through a homeless encampment.

One man who was sleeping on the sidewalk became trapped underneath the vehicle and sustained major injuries.

Firefighters had to extricate the man before transporting him to a local hospital.

In addition, three other people who were in the Dodge Dart sustained minor injuries and were also treated at a local hospital.

Speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of traffic accidents that resulted in death(s) in 2018, according to the NHTSA. The dangers of speeding include:

  • Loss of control of vehicle
