Fatal Crash on 215 Freeway Leaves Man & Woman Dead
Two people died as the result of a wrong-way driver in Riverside Tuesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident took place around 1:00 a.m. within the northbound lanes of the 215 Freeway.
An unidentified female was driving the wrong way in a Honda Civic before crashing into a Ford Fusion.
Reports included that the accident occurred near the Washington Street exit.
Sadly, both the woman and the male driver of the Ford died at the scene.
An active investigation is underway.
Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.
