Thomas Waicunas, Isabel Vasquez Killed in Crash
Law enforcement officials yesterday released the names of two people who died in separate car accidents late Monday and early Tuesday.
Thomas Steven Waicunas Jr., 72, was the pedestrian killed when struck by a car in Yuba City Monday evening, according to the Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office. Waicunas was homeless, the office reported.
Yuba City police today did not respond to questions about the accident involving Waicunas, which reportedly occurred near Bridge and Plumas streets in downtown Yuba City about 8 p.m.
The Placer County Sheriff-Coroner’s office identified the 26-year-old woman who died when a car she was riding in overturned near Lincoln early Tuesday as Isabel Blanco Vasquez. They did not identify what community she resided in.
The California Highway Patrol said Vasquez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle when it traveled off the right shoulder and overturned around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.
William Bryan Cubias-Martinez, 26, of Marysville, was identified by the CHP as the driver of the overturned vehicle. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and will be booked at the Placer County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving once he is released, the CHP said.
A GoFundMe site for funeral expenses identified the deceased woman as Isabel Vasquez Blanco and indicated she has family in Yuba City. We reached out to the woman who established the GoFundMe site to confirm the name but did not hear back by press time.
