Driver Killed After Crash Due to Autopilot
On May 5 around 2:40 a.m., a Tesla crashed into an overturned truck near Fontana, California killing the 35-year-old Tesla on impact. The wreck also injured the 50-year-old truck driver and a 30-year-old motorist who had pulled over to help the driver.
The truck had crashed just moments before the Tesla collided into it, blocking two lanes of the highway. The California Highway Patrol is investigating whether or not the Tesla was operating on its Autopilot settings.
There are currently 24 accidents involving Tesla vehicles operating on autopilot being investigated by federal highway safety regulators.
