Semi-Truck Collision Kills 1
Early Wednesday morning a semi-truck collided with a Chevorlet Cavalier at Community Boulevard and Lenwood Road in Hinkley, CA.
The collision occurred around 4:09 a.m. on August 4th. The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Terri English, a 34-year-old man from Barstow.
Reports state that English was heading westbound when he failed to stop at the intersection. He then was struck by the semi truck as a result of him entering its southbound path.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner stated that English was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:36 a.m.
Additionally, both vehicles had to be removed from the intersection by tow trucks.
It is often occupants of passenger cars that are killed in large truck collisions. Semi trucks typically weigh 20-30 times as much which leaves occupants of smaller cars more vulnerable.
It is also much more difficult for larger trucks to stop so their braking capability can also be a factor in these collisions.
According to the D.O.T., in 2019 67% of fatal collisions involving large trucks were those in a passenger car.
