Traffic Accident on Union Hill Road and Shaws Flat Road
Two vehicles collided head-on Tuesday morning in Sonora just minutes after 8 a.m.
The crash occurred on January 18th at Union Hill Road and Shaws Flat Road, per CHP.
A Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet pickup were among the two vehicles involved. It is unclear; however, what led to the collision.
One of the vehicles also ended up blocking the roadway upon impact.
An ambulance arrived at the scene to tend to one person who suffered minor injuries.
In addition, both cars had to be towed away from the scene.
Investigators are actively working to determine liability.
Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:
- 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
- They are most common on two-lane highways
- Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
- 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
