San Diego Wrong-Way Crash Kills 1, Injures 1

Fatal Crash on Interstate 8 near Ocean Beach

One person was killed and another hospitalized following a wrong-way collision on Monday night.

The fatal crash took place in San Diego on Interstate 8 at 11:25 p.m. on December 20th.

CHP reported that an eastbound vehicle was traveling in the westbound lanes before it struck another vehicle head-on.

As a result, the roadway became littered with debris and a 911 caller reported that two people were unresponsive.

Unfortunately, one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Authorities closed down the westbound lanes at the Sport Arena Boulevard exit for a period of time.

An active investigation is underway.

Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may also be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
