Romulo Lippel Killed in Thermal Crash Grapefruit Blvd
Romulo Lippel, 61, of Santa Ana, died and a woman was injured when their vehicle overturned on Grapefruit Boulevard just southeast of Thermal.
The solo crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 11th, just south of Avenue 58, the California Highway Patrol said. Romulo Lippel and the unidentified woman were traveling in a Ford F-250 pickup truck north on Grapefruit Boulevard, Yahoo News said. For unknown reasons, the truck went off the right side of the road and overturned onto its roof, the report said.
The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner identified the driver of the Ford F-250 pickup truck as Romulo Lippel on its website. He suffered major injuries and died at the scene about 1:21 p.m., the coroner report said.
Meanwhile, the female passenger in the truck suffered moderate injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported her by ambulance to a hospital.
Investigators report that both the man and woman had seatbelts on at the time of the crash.
However, authorities do not know at this time whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Also, it’s unknown if road conditions, mechanical problems or weather contributed to the accident.
Liability for the collision remains under investigation by the CHP Indio station.
