Vehicle Hits & Kills Pedestrian in Los Angeles
A stolen vehicle was being chased by police in Los Angeles Thursday morning shortly before the suspect struck a pedestrian.
It was around 12:30 a.m. when the accident occurred at 71st Street and Central Avenue.
The 42-year-old female driver was involved in a police pursuit on June 16th and the police had backed off the ground prior to the accident.
A male pedestrian, in his 50s, sadly died at the scene after being hit.
The suspect also suffered injuries and was treated at the hospital before being arrested.
The accident remains under investigation.
According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
