Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash at G and 5th Street

CHP is actively investigating a deadly pedestrian accident involving a patrol car in Merced Thursday night. 

Per reports, the incident took place around 10 p.m. on April 7th. 

An on-duty Merced police officer struck a woman at the intersection of G Street and 5th Street under unclear circumstances. 

Unfortunately, the woman sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.

The police officer is currently on paid leave. 

Further details will be provided once an investigation is concluded.

According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.

In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
