Deadly Pedestrian Accident in Gilman Hot Springs Area
CHP reported a fatal pedestrian accident in the Gilman Hot Springs area on Wednesday, September 21st.
Authorities reported that the incident took place at 5:12 in the morning on Highway 79.
The driver of a Mazda 3 struck the victim within the southbound lanes under unclear circumstances.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
A tow truck was also used to remove the vehicle from the scene for evidence.
An active investigation remains underway.
There was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.

- Avoid distractions (use of headphones, cell phone)
- Obey traffic laws & signals
- Always use crosswalk
