Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash
An unidentified person was struck by a vehicle and killed in Bakersfield on Sunday night.
The incident took place around 10:45 p.m. on May 8th at East California Avenue and Bakers Street.
According to reports, the vehicle hit the victim and fled the scene immediately after.
Police located the pedestrian and declared them dead at the scene.
Investigators are actively working to locate the suspect. There is currently no description of the vehicle available.
According to statistics, 20% of pedestrian fatalities include fleeing drivers. In addition, 68% of those killed in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians and bicyclists.
There was also a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
