Fatal Highway 99 Pedestrian Accident Reported in Modesto
An unidentified pedestrian was fatally struck by a big rig on Wednesday, June 29th in Modesto.
The tragic accident took place at about 7:23 a.m. on Highway 99 at Standiford Avenue.
A big rig, and possibly a Toyota Corolla, struck the victim between the Nos. 2 & 3 lanes for unknown reasons.
The victim sustained severe injuries and sadly died as a result.
A tow truck was also needed to remove the Toyota from the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
