Fatal Accident on Masten Avenue and 6th Street 

Multiple road closures were issued following a fatal accident in Gilroy on Friday morning. 

The crash happened under unclear circumstances around 6:30 a.m. between a Toyota and sedan.

Paramedics responded to the crash on Masten Avenue and 6th Street to pronounce one unidentified person dead. 

Investigators shut down Masten Avenue between Highway 101 and Monterey Road, along with 6th Street and Manna Way at Masten Avenue. 

The crash remains under investigation to determine liability.

In 2020, studies showed that the state of California reported 3,723 motor-vehicle deaths which was an increase from 2019.
