One Killed in Accident on International Boulevard and 54th Avenue

Multiple vehicles collided in Oakland Sunday morning, leading to the death of one pedestrian.

The incident took place on June 26th just before 2 a.m. within the 5400 block of International Boulevard and 54th Avenue.

Per reports, a 19-year-old man was speeding in a Nissan 350z before colliding with another vehicle.

This caused the Nissan to then collide with several parked vehicles, one of which was an SUV.

Upon impact, the SUV was sent into a group that were standing on the sidewalk.

Lolomanaia Soakai, 28, was one of the pedestrians that was struck and killed unfortunately.

There were also three others that were hospitalized.

The driver of the Nissan also had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was then booked into Santa Rita Jail for vehicular manslaughter along with other charges.

The crash remains under investigation.

JT Legal Group sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lolomanaia Soakai.

Speeding is without a doubt one of the leading causes in motor vehicle accidents, killing 9,478 people in 2018 according to the NHTSA. It was also a contributing factor in 26% of traffic accidents that resulted in death(s). The dangers of speeding include:

  • Loss of control of vehicle
