Farm Tractor and SUV Crash at Woodland Intersection

A 29-year-old Morgan Hill man died of his injuries after crashing a motorcycle exiting Highway 1 in Watsonville.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was operating a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle, headed southbound toward Highway 129, when the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. Friday. The Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as John Mollett.

Investigators believe the man veered off the roadway and traveled down an embankment, where he crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP continued this week to investigate the cause of the crash, saying it was unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were factors and at what speed the driver was traveling.

The Coroner’s Office also released identifying information for another motorist killed in recent days. Lucio Garcia, 18, of Watsonville, died Sunday when he drove off the side of Airport Boulevard near Pajaro Lane and crashed into a bridge guardrail.
