Highway 178 Collision Results in Death 

A Bakersfield woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash last Saturday, May 28th. 

The accident took place at 8:41 p.m. at the intersection of Alfred Harrell Highway and Highway 178 in Bakersfield. 

Morgan Lafaye Barber, 56, was driving south when her vehicle collided with a westbound pickup truck.

Sadly, Barber died at the scene at 9:23 p.m. 

It was also reported that the involved driver fled the scene on foot. 

The suspect, David Alvarez, 28, was taken into custody the next day. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. 

An active investigation remains underway.
