Bicyclist Dead After Being Struck By Car

A vehicle hit and killed a bicyclist on Tuesday night, September 14th in Mission Valley East.

According to San Diego Police, the fatal accident happened on Camino Del Rio South near Texas Street.

It was reported that a 25-year-old woman driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra struck an unidentified 42-year-old man riding a bike.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and neither drugs or alcohol are considered to be a factor.

Similar to motorcyclists, bicyclists are just as vulnerable on the roads. According to the NHTSA, 30% of bicycle accident injuries occur when hit by a vehicle. In addition, these injuries are often the result of the driver not paying attention.

Other things that factor into these accidents are road conditions and driving at night. Majority of bicycle and vehicle accidents are likely to happen when it is dark outside.

Because of the various dangers bicyclists face on the road, it is important that they possess all protection equipment.
