Bicycle Rider Gravely Injured in Oakland Car Accident

A 40-year-old San Leandro man riding a bicycle is fighting for his life after being hit by a car Wednesday night in an accident on Embarcadero in Oakland.

Additionally, the man is reportedly in grave condition after the crash in a commercial area near the Oakland Estuary, according to East Bay Times.

The bicycle accident occurred around 10:49 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30th near the I-880, the report said.

Police said a 65-year-old Oakland man driving a Ford C-Max was traveling east on Embarcadero when the bicycle rider left 16th Avenue and entered Embarcadero. The car struck the bicycle rider and the man was thrown off the bike.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the injured man to a hospital for treatment of a major head injury. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Meanwhile, the Oakland man driving the car stopped and is cooperating with authorities and the investigation. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol are factors.
