Vehicle Hits & Kills Female on Highway 74
A 20-year-old woman identified as Carla Luxhilario died after being hit by a car last Tuesday night.
The incident occurred on January 11th at about 9:20 p.m. on Highway 74.
Investigators concluded that Luxhilario was attempting to cross the highway at an unmarked crosswalk near Trumble Road.
The involved driver tried to avoid the woman but unfortunately could not.
Sadly, despite life-saving efforts, Luxhilario died at the scene.
Chris Kornacki, the driver, stopped at the scene and was fully cooperative with authorities.
An active investigation is underway.
According to statistics, 20% of pedestrian fatalities include fleeing drivers. In addition, 68% of those killed in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians and bicyclists.
There was also a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018 and California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.

- Obey traffic laws & signals
- Always use crosswalk
