Mark Osborne Injured After DUI Crash in Sebastopol
The man who struck bicyclist Mark Osborne, 53, and a young boy in a DUI crash was arrested and identified.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Osborne was riding a bicycle northbound on the right shoulder of High School Road in Sebastopol. At the same time, a 12-year-old boy was traveling along the same route. Meanwhile, Ulises Valdez was driving a Ram Rebel pickup at unsafe speeds on the same road.
Valdez’s speeding car approached the bicyclists from behind and then spun out after he lost control completely. The pickup hit the shoulder and the boy rider. The CHP said the truck continued to spin back into the traffic lane and again onto the right shoulder. Eventually, Valdez also struck Osborne.
Both the adolescent and Osborne sustained major injuries. Paramedics rushed the victims to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment. Soon after, Medical personnel transferred the boy to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
After being checked out for treatment, authorities arrested Valdez on suspicion of felony DUI.
