Deadly Pedestrian Accident at Garfield Avenue and Hay Street

Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Montebello Thursday night. 

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner reported that the crash occurred on March 24th at 9:46 p.m.

Marissa Barriga, 32, was struck at Garfield Avenue and Hay Street. 

Sadly, Barriga sustained blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The involved driver stayed at the scene and was fully cooperative with authorities. 

Further details will be provided once an investigation is concluded.

According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.

In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
