Manuel Gutierrez Arrested For Wrong-Way Crash

Manuel Gutierrez was arrested for being involved in a fatal crash that happened in Tehachapi. The fatal wrong-way crash happened on Highway 58 and left one person dead and another person injured.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash started when Gutierrez kept driving without stopping and tried to run over an officer in Barstow. The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but failed.

Gutierrez then fled the Barstow area and drove through Tehachapi. He later re-entered Highway 58 at Highway 202, headed westbound in the eastbound lanes. Meanwhile, a 2010 Nissan Murano was headed east.

Gutierrez collided head-on into the Nissan just east of Broome Road. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and said the passenger of the Murano died as a result of the crash. The coroner’s office identified the victim as Sheree Lee Fishgold, 62, of Tehachapi.

Both Manuel Gutierrez and the driver of the Nissan sustained major injuries following the crash. They were both rushed to hospitals for further treatment.

CHP arrested Gutierrez at Kern Medical and booked him into the Kern County Jail shortly after.
