Man Killed in Fresno DUI Crash

Suspected DUI Accident Leaves One Dead

An impaired driver was killed in a traffic accident in Fresno early Monday morning.

According to CHP, a speeding Mercury Grand Marquis collided with a big rig that was pulling out of a private driveway.

The accident took place around 2:45 a.m. on Elm Avenue near North Avenue on May 23rd.

Sadly, the driver of the Marquis was killed as a result.

There were no injuries reported from the driver of the big rig.

It was also discovered that the driver who died was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Police also issued a closure of Elm Avenue as crews worked at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.
