Luke Emil Alpoonarian Killed in Crash Running Red Light

On Wednesday afternoon, July 28th, a fatal crash occurred killing one and seriously injuring the other.

The collision took place at the intersection of South Temperance and East Jensen Avenue at 4:08 p.m.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas reported that Luke Emil Alpoonarian, 26, was driving a Kia Forte when he ran a red light heading westbound. A Toyota Highlander was t-boned as a result. The driver of the Toyota Highlander was an unidentified 63-year-old woman.

As the Highlander was making a left turn, the Kia Forte crashed into the front driver’s side of the vehicle.

Both drivers sustained major injuries and were transported to Community Regional medical where the man was later pronounced dead.

The 26-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt and the woman is in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing but drugs or alcohol have not been suspected to be a factor in the collision.

Statistics from 2019 show that 846 people were killed in crashes that involved running a red light and about 143,000 people were injured.
