Lurlene Smith Injured in Deadly Multi-Vehicle Collision in Palmdale, CA

Early Thursday, 68-year-old Lurlene Smith, along with four other people, was injured in a fatal multi-vehicle crash. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision took place around 3:50 a.m. on 50th Street East, north of Avenue P in Palmdale, CA.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Michael Reinert, of Lancaster, was headed southbound on 50th Street East in a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban when he switched lanes and sideswiped Smith’s oncoming 2020 Chevrolet Malibu. Smith lost control of her vehicle and collided with a southbound Toyota Yaris, driven by 32-year-old Richard Gomez, of Lancaster.

A 66-year-old who was a passenger of Smith’s was killed in the accident. Smith, Gomez, and their passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, all with major injuries. Reinert suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
