Fatal Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested in Torrance 

20-year-old Kevin Torres-Valencia was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run for a crash that occurred early Wednesday morning. 

The incident took place on May 11th at Pacific Coast Highway and Calle Mayor.

Valencia’s vehicle struck an unidentified woman at the intersection around 1 a.m. 

Reports included that the suspect’s vehicle was identified on video surveillance. 

One of the suspect’s relatives also contacted authorities regarding the incident. 

An active investigation remains underway.

According to statistics, 20% of pedestrian fatalities include fleeing drivers. In addition, 68% of those killed in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians and bicyclists. 

There was also a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.

In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
