DUI Driver Hits and Kills Brother and Sister in Bakersfield
19-year-old JJ Malone and his 10-year-old sister Caylee Brown were struck by a vehicle and killed on Wednesday.
The deadly accident was the result of a drunk driver, according to police.
The incident took place on December 8th at the intersection of Panama Lane and Hammond Way.
Lisa Core, 46, was the involved driver who lost control while traveling westbound. As a result, she veered into the eastbound lanes causing her to jump the curb.
Core then struck the two who were standing at the corner of Panama Lane and Hammond Way.
Sadly, the brother and sister died at the scene.
The female driver suffered moderate injuries and received treatment at a local hospital.
She has been arrested and booked at Kern County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving on a suspended license for DUI.
Core is being held without bail and has to appear for court on Friday, December 10th.
Additionally, authorities shut down a section of the street pending cleanup and investigation.
