Traffic Collision on Windmill Lane Kills 23-Year-Old Man
Two vehicles collided in Las Vegas on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of Jeffrey Michael Gonzales.
Reports included that the accident occurred at 8:44 p.m. at the intersection of Windmill Lane and Torrey Pines Drive.
Police were trying to stop a Chrysler Town and Country minivan for suspicion of narcotics-related activity.
The driver of the Chrysler sped off to escape from authorities and proceeded through the intersection where they ran a red light.
As a result, the Chrysler crashed into a Nissan Sentra, driven by Gonzales.
Unfortunately, Gonzales was declared dead at the scene due to the impact.
The driver of the Chrysler also sustained major injuries and was taken to University Medical Center.
It was also discovered that the Chrysler driver showed signs of drug use at the time of the crash. He was booked for DUI resulting in death as well as reckless driving resulting in death.
An investigation is ongoing.
Statistics from 2019 show that 846 people were killed in crashes that involved running a red light and about 143,000 people were injured.
