Jeffrey Lynds and Dennis Butterfield Injured In Crash

Two people were brought to the hospital on Thursday after a crash in Casco involving multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle.

Just after 4 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash involving three vehicles on Route 302 near Lakewood Road in Casco, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Officials said 21-year-old Kevin Lavoie of Windham was driving a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound when he crashed into the back of a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 69-year-old Dennis Butterfield of Casco that had stopped to make a left turn onto Lakewood Road.

The motorcycle went into the opposite lane after the initial crash and struck a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 44-year-old Jeffrey Lynds of Windham, the sheriff’s office said.

Lavoie was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was brought to Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight with “serious, life threatening injuries.” Lynds suffered minor injuries and was brought to Bridgton Hospital by ambulance.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Route 302 was closed for several hours while the sheriff’s office was assisted by Gorham and Windham accident reconstruction personnel.
