Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez Arrested after Santa Clara Car Accident on San Tomas Expressway

Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez, 28, of Sonoma, was arrested after a suspected DUI crash that left one person dead early Saturday morning in Santa Clara, according to authorities.

The crash on the San Tomas Expressway happened just before 6:15 a.m. at El Camino Real.

A BMW was traveling northbound on San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real when a Volvo traveling at a high rate of speed failed to stop for a red light and crashed into the BMW.

A passenger in the BMW, a 31-year-old Sonoma man, died at the scene of the collision.

The drivers were hospitalized with major injuries.

Mendoza-Inijuez was the driver of the Volvo and was arrested on suspicion of homicide and DUI causing great bodily injury.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the wreck.
