Isaias Hernandez ID’d as Man Who Died In Big Rig Crash

A Hayward collision involving a big rig and sedan killed 26-year-old Isaias Hernandez on Saturday morning.

The deadly crash took place around 6:08 a.m. on October 2nd at the intersection of Tennyson Road and Hesperian Boulevard.

According to reports, first responders were needed to extricate both occupants of the sedan.

After Hernandez and his passenger were removed from the sedan emergency personnel transported them to Eden Medical Center.

Sadly, Hernandez was pronounced dead at the hospital. His passenger, on the other hand, was hospitalized with major injuries.

Moreover, the big rig driver did not sustain any injuries.

Alcohol was also suspected to play a role in the collision, however it is uncertain at this time which party was under the influence.

The crash remains under investigation and those with information are advised to contact authorities at (510) 293-7169.

It is most often those in passenger cars that are killed in large truck collisions. Semi trucks typically weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars which leaves occupants of smaller cars more vulnerable.

It is also much more difficult for larger trucks to stop so their braking capability can also be a factor in these collisions.

According to the D.O.T., in 2019 67% of fatal collisions involving large trucks were occupants of a passenger car.
