Man Hit by DUI Driver in Pittsburg, CA
A driver under the influence of drugs hit and critically injured a male pedestrian in Pittsburg, CA on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on January 18th just after 4 p.m. on Buchanan Road.
Authorities reported that the man had parked his vehicle on Buchanan Road and in an attempt to cross the street, a westbound vehicle struck him.
The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
The involved driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury after showing signs of drug use.
Police also shut down Buchanan Road for several hours following the accident for investigation purposes.
There was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018 and California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
