78-Year-Old Woman Killed in Modesto Accident

Two vehicles collided in Modesto on June 14th, resulting in the death of Helen Byers, 78.

It was at the intersection of Gates Road and Highway 132 where the accident occurred.

Byers was reportedly driving southbound before stopping at the stop sign.

When proceeding through the intersection, she was struck by a westbound vehicle. 

Her vehicle was sent off the roadway and into a canal, becoming submerged. 

There were witnesses that helped the lady out of the water before paramedics arrived.

Byers was transported to the hospital where she sadly died due to her injuries. 

It was also reported that the other driver sustained minor injuries.

An active investigation is underway.
