Ezequiel Guzman Arrested in Fatal Head-On Crash
35-year-old Ezequiel Guzman was arrested for driving under the influence after a fatal head-on crash in Ukiah.
The accident took place on Tuesday night, December 21st around 6:43 p.m. on Talmage Road.
According to CHP, Guzman was traveling east in a Chevy Malibu before drifting across the center median.
As a result, he hit a westbound Ford Fusion head-on which was driven by Phillip Harrison, 38.
Emergency personnel responded to find two people unresponsive in one of the vehicles.
Guzman and one of his passengers had to be extricated from the vehicle and rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
Another one of Guzman’s passengers, whose name is being withheld, sadly died at the scene of the crash.
Harrison, the driver of the Ford suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley.
In addition, Guzman and his passengers were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.
