87-Year-Old Gita Gilgur Killed in Crash
An 87-year-old woman died after a collision in Sunnyvale on Wednesday, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
The crash involving two vehicles was reported at 11:33 a.m. in the area of El Camino Real and Cezanne Drive, prompting an emergency response from Sunnyvale DPS and fire personnel.
One of the drivers suffered major injuries in the crash, and a passenger in the second car suffered moderate injuries, authorities said. Both were taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
The driver later died of her injuries while at the hospital. She was been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Gita Gilgur, 87, of Sunnyvale.
Police said that speed or alcohol impairment did not appear to be factors in the crash.
The fatal collision is under investigation by the Sunnyvale DPS Major Accident Investigation Team; anyone with information for police can contact investigator Jessi Montgomery at 408-730-7109.
Mendillo was arrested on Oct. 25 on a warrant and arraigned on Oct. 28 in Newport District Court. Bail was set at $25,000. A probable cause hearing was set by the court for Nov. 7.
