Pedestrian Hit Twice on North Wilton Place
An unidentified woman was hit and killed by two vehicles in Hollywood Sunday morning, July 17th.
Reports included that the incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on North Wilton Place.
A Toyota Corolla was pulling away from the curb when it struck the woman. It then fled the scene without providing aid.
The victim was lying in the street for several minutes and then was struck by a Nissan Rogue. That driver also fled the scene.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and rushed the woman to the hospital where she sadly died.
Authorities later located the driver of the Toyota but are still in search of the driver of the Nissan.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to statistics, 20% of pedestrian fatalities include fleeing drivers. In addition, 68% of those killed in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians and bicyclists.
There was also a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
