One Killed in Bakersfield Accident on Highway 99
An Amazon semi-truck rear-ended a vehicle in Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, resulting in one person dying.
The accident occurred on March 22nd at 4:41 a.m. within the southbound lanes of Highway 99.
The Amazon driver told authorities that they slammed into the back of a stopped vehicle during traffic.
Upon impact, the vehicle overturned near the railroad tracks.
One person died as a result. Their identity is being withheld pending notification of kin.
An active investigation is underway.
According to the NHTSA, nearly 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported each year in the U.S. More specifically, they are responsible for 28% of all crashes.
In addition, rear-end collisions account for 950,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths each year.
These types of crashes are often the result of distracted and reckless driving.
