Two vehicles collided head-on as the result of a wrong-way driver in Lancaster on Monday morning.

Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the death of one unidentified woman.

California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 12:07 a.m. within the northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway.

Both a news videographer and witnesses told authorities that one of the vehicles was driving the wrong-way

Police shut down all northbound lanes at Avenue H as investigators and cleanup crews worked at the scene.

Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.
