77-Year-Old Man Killed in Wreck on Aten Road 

Two vehicles collided head-on in Imperial County on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of one unidentified man. 

Per CHP, a Honda driven by a 77-year-old man hit a Dodge head-on.

The Dodge was driven by Carlos Lopez-Merendon, 35, and the accident took place on February 13th.

Reports also included that the accident occurred on Aten Road around 8:20 a.m. 

It is unclear at this time what caused the Honda to drift into opposing traffic. 

Merendon suffered minor injuries as a result and was treated at the scene. 

Investigators are actively working to determine what may have factored into the collision. 

Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
