Driver Killed in Crash on Vanden Road
A head-on collision left one person dead in Fairfield Monday afternoon, June 20th.
Reports included that the wreck took place just after 4 p.m. on Vanden Road.
The accident was the result of one of the involved drivers crossing over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
Sadly, that driver died at the scene.
No injuries were reported from the other driver.
Authorities also shut down Vanden Road for an hour pending investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:
- 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
- They are most common on two-lane highways
- Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
- 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
