SR-52 Crash Leaves One Dead
One person was killed in a head-on collision in San Diego on Friday, August 26th.
The tragic accident took place in the early hours at 2:41 a.m.
According to CHP, a red sedan and pickup truck crashed head-on within the westbound lanes of SR-52.
Sadly, one of the occupants of the sedan died as a result.
In addition, the pickup truck driver suffered undisclosed injuries.
Tow trucks were also needed to remove the vehicles from the scene.
An active investigation remains underway to determine fault.
Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:
- 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
- They are most common on two-lane highways
- Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
- 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
