Head-On Collision Kills Miguel Figueroa
A head-on collision claimed the life of 19-year-old Miguel Figueroa on Monday morning, August 9th in Los Angeles County.
The crash happened just minutes before 5:00 a.m. in Pearblossom, at Highway 138 at Longview Road.
According to California Highway Patrol, the two vehicles involved were a SR-138 and a 2003 Saturn. Reports state Figueroa was heading westbound when he veered into the eastbound path of the Saturn.
Figueroa was killed as a result.
The other person involved has been ID’d as 45-year-old Daniel Meneses. He suffered serious injuries following the collision.
Both directions of Highway 138 were shut down at Longview Road while officers investigated the scene.
A 2017 study showed that 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality. Within this study results also showed that head-on collisions are more likely to occur in a rural area rather than urban areas. More specifically on two-lane highways and are oftentimes the result of a failed passing maneuver.
