Fatal Crash in North County Kills Man in San Diego
An unidentified resident of San Diego was killed following a traffic accident on the I-15 Freeway on Sunday.
The crash was reported around 1:20 a.m. on September 12th in North County.
According to police, a 56-year-old man died after his car struck a guardrail.
He was reportedly driving southbound when he veered off the freeway near Stewart Canyon Road.
In addition, a 28-year-old male passenger sustained major injuries and both were rushed to a local hospital. Sadly, the 56-year-old driver died at the hospital, despite life-saving efforts.
As of Monday, September 13th, the passenger was still hospitalized, however his condition is unknown.
Authorities are actively investigating to determine what caused the crash.
Studies show that about 20% of motor vehicle fatalities are caused by a vehicle veering off the roadway and hitting a fixed object. Among these fixed objects, trees, traffic barriers, and utility poles are most common. Approximately half of these types of accidents occur at night time. Another interesting fact is that in 2019, studies found that a majority of these deaths took place from July to September.
Always wear your seatbelt, obey traffic laws and avoid any distractions while driving.
