Deadly Pedestrian Accident at Convoy Street and Othello Avenue
An impaired driver caused a fatal pedestrian accident in Kearny Mesa Tuesday morning.
The 39-year-old male driver was under the influence of drugs while driving a Tesla.
He ran a red light at the intersection of Convoy Street and Othello Avenue, then hit a dip, causing the car to go flying.
As a result, the vehicle hit a woman who was walking southbound on Convoy June 7th.
The 40-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries where she sadly died.
Police arrested the involved driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
