Huntington Drive Head-On Crash Leaves 1 with Major Injuries
A wrong-way driver caused a head-on collision in Duarte on Tuesday morning, May 17th.
Per reports, a red Prius was driving the wrong way at 9:21 a.m. within the 2700 block of Huntington Drive.
As a result, the Prius collided head-on with an Audi SUV.
Upon impact, the Prius then crashed into a building next to the Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital.
One person suffered major injuries and a dog was also killed which was in one of the vehicles.
Both vehicles also acquired major damage.
An active investigation is underway.
Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions.
A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents
